Indoor vs. Outdoor Airsoft

If you're going to be taking part in airsoft matches, then you'll want to pick out the proper equipment. As you are likely aware, there are many equipment components and what gets taken onto the field or arena is partly dependent on personal preferences. The most crucial part of gearing up is, of course, picking the right gun(s).

You shouldn't always just mindlessly grab your favorite sniper rifle or shotgun, though. Every player needs to take into account where they will be playing what the surroundings will be like. The first question you need to ask yourself is in regards to whether you are going to be playing indoors or outdoors. Most outdoor fields have larger playing areas and higher limits on FPS.

For you newcomers out there, FPS means feet per second. It refers to how many feet each round will theoretically travel per second. So an airsoft gun with an FPS of 100 should fire pellets at 100 feet per second. In practice, air resistance comes into play and that knocks the speed down. Nevertheless, restrictions are based off of FPS, and outdoor fields usually require players to have a max setting of 400FPS.

Outdoor play means larger fields, which usually equates to combat taking place at longer ranges. There aren't going to be a lot of enclosed spaces, if any, for you to move through; think about that when selecting a weapon for the battlefield.

Indoor fields are just the opposite. When fighting inside you will certainly be encountering more foes in CQB/CQC (Close Quarters Battle/Close Quarters Combat) situations. Expect the limit to be placed around 350 FPS when indoors. Playing indoors means that your space is much more limited; you need to be agile and have CQB weapons in your arsenal.
